CloudAnarchy (1.16.5) — a little gem in the world of anarchy servers

Welcome to our new article!

Not every project needs dozens of custom systems, bosses, and themed worlds. Sometimes you just need a good classic anarchy: a harsh world, claims, donations, and an economy that work from the first launch. That's the build we're presenting: CloudAnarchy!

We rebuilt this anarchy from scratch on the Paper 1.16.5 core: added authorization, replaced plugins that wouldn't start or were infected with clean versions, styled all text in the signature Cloud Delight small caps, translated plugin messages into Russian, and cleaned third-party data out of the build. There is a single server — no proxy and no lobby: download it, start it, play. Players can join from 1.16.5 clients and newer. And the main thing: the build is free. We explain how to get it at the end of the article.

There is more in it than meets the eye: 23 GUI menus, a donation store with 58 items, 5 ranks, 56 quests, a battle pass, clans, three events, and four Cloud Delight plugins. If you don't want to read the whole article, here is a short (incomplete) list of what's in the build:

The Paper 1.16.5 core, joining from 1.16.5 clients and newer
Optimized core settings — mob and entity limits, fast redstone and explosions, Aikar's startup flags
A consistent build style — 23 GUI menus and all text in signature small caps
A registration and login system — account protection even for players joining from cracked clients
An optional resource pack with menu icons, a 3D logo, and rank badges — the server hosts it itself
A hub with a PVP arena, NPCs, holograms, and a spawn navigator
A claim system with 5 block types + a donation-only "Unbreakable Claim" that only PowerTNT can break
A buyer system for 36 resources and an auction with a slot limit by rank
A jobs system — a mine and a sawmill with pay
Rewards for killing mobs, and for killing a player, part of their money too
Two currencies — in-game money and donation coins
5 donor ranks with commands, homes, claim limits, and auction slots + /kit sets from Faun to Phobos
A donation store with 9 sections and 58 items
Unique enchantments — 10 books in the donation store and 97 more enchantments at the Enchanter
4 talismans and 4 orbs with unique stats
Custom dynamite StrongTNT and PowerTNT
Donation gear — Birus and Belial sets, pickaxes and swords with Efficiency X and Sharpness X

56 quests from the Farmer, the Fisherman, and the Armorer
4 types of crates and 20 opening animations
13 titles for nickname customization
A clan system — base, treasury, clan wars, ranking, and upgrades
A report system for players
Anti-relog and cooldowns on golden apples, pearls, and totems
Random teleport /rtp and an RTP pad on the hub
Top lists of the richest players and killers on holograms
4 Cloud Delight plugins — CloudSkills, CloudUniversalBow, CloudCommandStaff, CloudSphereChest
The "Air Drop" event in three rarities
The "Death Chest" event on the PVP arena
The "Sphere Chest" event with its own guardian
4 staff groups with preconfigured permissions
An anarchy world of 4000×4000, the Nether, and the End

And that's only the most significant and essential part!

Let's go through everything in order. CloudAnarchy is a classic anarchy without extra layers, but it's neatly designed: all text is in trendy small caps with a gold gradient, all 23 GUI menus have a glass-pane frame in the corners and an "Exit" button in the center of the bottom row, and the button layout is symmetrical. The TAB list, scoreboard, holograms, chat, and plugin messages share the same style, so players get used to the interface quickly and don't get lost in the menus.

A new player appears on the hub, a separate world with its own PVP arena, warps, and NPCs. The auction, claims, donations, navigator, titles, buyer, quests, and battle pass each have their own NPC, and 16 holograms around spawn tell players where to go and which commands to type. You can't get lost: the /gps navigator takes you to the PVP arena, claims, RTP, donations, and the auction in a couple of clicks:

Right after joining, the player registers with /reg and logs in with /login on later visits. Until they log in, they can't move or type commands, and after 30 seconds without logging in the server disconnects them. The build lets in cracked clients too, so this kind of account protection is a must, and it's already configured. After the first login, the player immediately gets a starter kit.

A word about the design: the build has an optional resource pack. If the player accepts it, they see hand-drawn icons on the main menu buttons, a 3D logo in the TAB header, in the scoreboard, and on the welcome hologram, plus rank badges in chat, in the player list, and above heads. If they decline, they see plain text and everything keeps working.

The server hosts the pack itself through a built-in web server: no third-party hosting is needed, you just enter the IP and open one port.

The main menu, /menu, has five sections: events, donations, links, earning, and claims. The other menus open from it, so players don't have to memorize dozens of commands.

As for ranks, the build has 5: King, Faun, Hermes, Hephaestus, and Phobos. Ranks inherit along a chain, and each next tier gives more homes, more claim blocks, and more auction slots, and from Faun on, its own gear set too:

Player — 2 homes, 3 claims, 5 auction slots
King — 3 homes, 5 claims, 7 slots
Faun — 4 homes, 6 claims, 8 slots, /hat, /top, /suicide, /loom, and a kit every 12 hours
Hermes — 5 homes, 8 claims, 10 slots, /feed, /heal, /ec, /back, /craft, and a kit every day
Hephaestus — 6 homes, 10 claims, 12 slots, /tptoggle, /jump, /grindstone, /stonecutter, and a kit every 36 hours
Phobos — 7 homes, 12 claims, 14 slots, /fly, /repair, /anvil, /smithtable, /setwarp, colored chat, and a kit every 48 hours

Speaking of permissions, the build comes with 4 staff groups preconfigured: Helper, Moderator, Admin, and Owner. Each one inherits the permissions of the previous one, and the staff badge shows in chat and TAB even for a moderator with a donor rank.

Helper mutes, kicks, and handles reports; Moderator adds temporary bans, vanish, teleport, and inventory viewing; Admin handles bans, gamemode, item giving, and region management; Owner can do everything.

Now for the gameplay in more detail, starting with the most important thing for any anarchy server: claims. The build has 5 types: gold block, diamond block, diamond ore, and emerald ore protect an area with a radius of 5, 10, 15, and 25 blocks, and the fifth, the obsidian "Unbreakable Claim" with a radius of 25, is sold only for donations. How many claims a player can place depends on their rank: from 3 for a Player to 12 for Phobos:

cloudanarchy

A claim protects against building and theft, but not against explosions, because this is anarchy. The exception is the "Unbreakable Claim": only PowerTNT from the donation store can blow it up.

So that players don't hoard mountains of resources in chests, there is a buyer on the hub. He buys 36 types of items, from andesite to beacons: left click sells one item, right click sells a whole stack. The money earned goes into the richest-players top, so players have a reason to build farms and go down into mines.

The auction is a marketplace where players sell resources to each other and buy them. A listing stays up for 6 hours, the price ranges from 1 to 10 million, and the number of slots depends on the rank: from 5 for a Player to 14 for Phobos.

For first earnings, the build has two jobs right on the hub: the mine and the sawmill. The mine pays for every block mined: coal — $10, iron — 20, gold — 25, quartz — 30, diamond — 50, emerald — 100. Ore respawns after 10 seconds, and pay is collected with the /mine salary command:

Besides jobs, hunting brings in money: for killing mobs (the config lists 69 creature types) a player gets from $1 to $15, and for killing a player, also 5% of the victim's money. Money drops as a gold nugget, so anyone can pick it up!

The store and the donation store are the main source of income for any anarchy server, so we paid special attention to the /shop donation store: it has 9 sections and 58 items for donation coins. Coins are given with a single command, so a donation website connects without any extra work. Let's look at the sections in more detail:

  • Unique enchantments:
The section has 10 CrazyEnchantments books: Telepathy, Drill (mines 3×3), Smelter, Experience, Blindness, Vampirism, Double Strike, Poison, Savior, and Leaper. In total, the build enables 97 enchantments; the player gets the rest from the Enchanter for experience levels.
  • Talismans and orbs:

1) Unique talismans give bonuses while held in hand: Chroma, Healer, Muramasa, and Birus. Each gives something and takes something away. For example, the Healer Talisman adds 6 health but lowers armor.

2) Unique orbs work the same way but with a different set of stats: Gabbra, Hermes, Athena, and Belial. The Hermes Orb, for example, speeds up running and attacking, and the Belial Orb adds damage and health.

  • Unique custom dynamite:
The "Griefing" section sells StrongTNT with an explosion radius of 30, PowerTNT with a radius of 40 that breaks even obsidian, plus regular dynamite and a TNT minecart. 4 more types of custom TNT are already set up in the config, and you can add them to the store with a couple of lines.
  • Special donation items:
Totem of Undying, elytra, enchanted and regular golden apples, beacons, End crystals, and obsidian — everything that takes the longest to get on an anarchy server. For builders and enchanting fans, there are ready-made sets: the "Builder's Set" with 27 stacks of obsidian and the "Sorcerer's Set" with enchanting tables, bookshelves, and stacks of experience bottles.
  • Unique donation gear:
The Great Miner's Pickaxe with Fortune V, the Mole Pickaxe with Efficiency X, the Hunter's Sword with Looting V, the Killer's Sword with Sharpness X, and an unbreakable pickaxe and sword with Unbreaking V. And for those who want everything at once, there are the Birus (netherite) and Belial (diamond) sets: helmet, chestplate, leggings, boots, axe, pickaxe, sword, and bow with Protection IV, Thorns III, Sharpness V, Power V, and Mending.

A special direction in customization is titles. The build has 13 gradient titles shown next to the player's nickname; each is unlocked by its own permission, so you decide whether to sell them or hand them out for achievements. Out of the box, all 13 are given as battle pass rewards.

The build also has 4 types of crates: a donation crate with ranks from King to Phobos, a free crate, a money crate, and a coin crate. They open in the crate machine on the hub, and there are as many as 20 opening animations, which you can let players choose from, for example as a rank bonus:

For extra player retention, and as another way to monetize the server, the build has a battle pass: 20 free and 20 premium levels, 10 daily quests, and 10 more for each of three weeks. The rewards are built from what's in the build itself: money and coins, crates, enchantment books, claims, dynamite, a talisman and an orb, the command staff, the universal bow, CloudSkills abilities, and all 13 titles. The premium track unlocks with the Hephaestus rank, which is one more reason to buy a rank.

For those who like completing tasks, there are quests: as many as 56 of them across three NPCs, 28 from the Farmer, 19 from the Fisherman, and 9 from the Armorer. Quests come in chains: bring resources, kill mobs, play for a set time, and the player gets a reward for each one:

For team players, the build has clans: each clan has its own base, treasury, and a ranking from Bronze to Titanic. Clans fight each other in clan wars with up to 5 fighters per side and spend the treasury on upgrades: extra slots, health, and combat effects for the war.

Creating a clan costs 25,000 in-game currency, a clan holds up to 10 members, and friendly fire is off.

Fair play isn't forgotten either: anti-relog for 25 seconds of combat (logging out in combat means death) and cooldowns on golden apples, pearls, chorus fruit, fireworks, and totems. A cheater can be reported with /report for one of 8 reasons, from fly and kill aura to bug abuse, and the top lists of the richest players and killers hang as holograms right at spawn. /rtp helps you get away from spawn: a random point in the world within a 1000-block radius, or the RTP pad on the hub.

And finally, the build includes four Cloud Delight plugins:

CloudSkills — 4 combat skills: Zeus's Blessing (lightning), Hellfire, Poisoner, and Pilot
CloudUniversalBow — a universal bow with three modes: arrows, rocket, and sword projectile
CloudCommandStaff — a command staff that applies one of 10 random effect sets: from blinding everyone around to a zombie horde and a Wither
CloudSphereChest — the "Sphere Chest" event, covered below

Now on to the special part of this build: events that gather players in one spot and keep them from getting bored!

All events:

Event — "Air Drop"

The classic and most popular event on any anarchy server. Once an hour, a drop of one of three rarities falls at a random point in the world within a 1000-block radius: common, rare, or epic. The server announces the rarity in advance, and the drop can be opened only 5 minutes after it lands, which is just enough time for everyone who wants it to run over. Inside: enchanted armor and weapons, totems, elytra, netherite ingots, and in the epic drop, orbs and talismans too!

cloudanarchy

Event — "Death Chest"

Once an hour, a chest with loot from a bastion treasure room appears in the center of the PVP arena on the hub. The server announces it to all players with a title and a sound, and the arena gets crowded right away.

Event — "Sphere Chest"

An event from our CloudSphereChest plugin. Once every two hours, a chest surrounded by a claim appears in the world within 200 blocks of the center, and the server announces it 15 minutes ahead. You can't just open it: you need a "Sphere Key", which drops from the Sphere Guardians protecting the chest. Inside: diamonds, emeralds, golden apples, experience, new keys, and occasionally one of the build's four orbs.

To sum up: CloudAnarchy gives you everything a classic anarchy server needs: claims, economy, donations, quests, clans, and events that work right after launch. Any element can easily be replaced, removed, or added, so adapting the build to your wishes won't be hard!

Put together, these points give you a build that can easily attract and hook new players and bring in revenue through ranks, the donation store, crates, and the battle pass!
